With the Boy at the Museum of Science and Industry--Again!!

We embraced the morning's rain and headed to the Museum of Science and Industry.  Stefan, who has always loved exploring the museum, wanted to see the Weather exhibition.  None of us were disappointed.  It is outstanding.

A few highlights:

Mr. Carlyle, I am in complete agreement!

A tornado spins in a two-story high tube.  Amazing!

A NOAA buoy reminded Stefan that it will soon be time to go to work again.

He's in his element when surrounded by science.

We were starved after chasing storms, creating lightening, causing an avalanche and gazing upon tsunamis in the making so we headed over to Hyde Park's Bon Jour Cafe for some lunch.

The rain had stopped and it was comfortably cool so we sat in the courtyard.

And finished with dessert.

It was a very good day.

Oh, here's a photo of my niece, Emily, with a Hasselblad camera:

It was taken at Stefan and Elyssa's wedding last year and belongs to the wedding photographer.  I won't be getting one.  It's the Canon Rebel EOS T2i for me!!  And that's my final answer.

  1. What a great day at the Museum. My son would have definitely enjoyed this day too.

Your niece is cute, cute and cute again.

  2. I will be right there, I want to see that tornado and go to that cafe and eat that food you showed us. I would love to visit that musuem myself.

  3. Glad you settled on your camera! What a fun day, I like that you didn't let the rain get in the way. I don't know why but I'm feeling like dessert right now!
    Enjoy the nice long weekend.

  4. Ohhhh that eclair!!! I wish it were in my fridge!! So you used to live in my neck of the woods. And I see you have kids my kids age too.
    Have a lovely weekend Bonnie.

  5. Hi Bonnie, What a neat adventure for your son --and you... I would love that museum. I am not a 'science' person --but I do love learning about the weather....

    Your lunch looked delicious also.

And that niece is a Cutie Pie.

  6. Museums are so much fun. What a cute photo of your niece.

Good luck with your new camera.

By the way, Audi DOES sleep everywhere.

  7. Hi Bonnie,
Thanks for visiting my blog. I've just spent some time on yours, and I especially love your recipes and I'd never know you are a beginning photographer. Your photos are interesting and well composed. Your photos make your food look yummy, and that's the goal! I like you already for choosing a Canon - HaHa. I've shot with Canon SLR cameras for years and have been so pleased. (Really, one can't go wrong with either a Canon or a Nikon.) Anyway, you might want to stop by my blog on Tuesdays where I usually have a 'Tech Talk Tuesday' post. I answer questions and give simple explanations about using your camera and basic photography skills that might help you along the way. Also, in my sidebar I've listed all the past 'Tech Talk Tuesday' posts. Hope you have a great weekend getting acquainted with you new best friend (that Canon!)

  8. It sounds like a great day. Is Colleen Moore's dollhouse still at the museum? How about the coal mine? it sounds like a wonderful time is being had by all. Enjoy the weekend. Blessings...Mary

  9. Final answer?? Sure?? What a GREAT post! As soon as I saw the bakery sign, I was hoping for the food pics next, and you didn't dissapoint!! I think too pretty to eat, maybe! My favorite pic may be the whirlwind, though. What a great shot!! And what a shock to see your little neice with that camera, I was thinking "What the...?" till you explained who it belonged to!

  10. Gosh, I haven't been to the Museum of Science and Industry since Hannah was little - maybe 10 years!

My dream camera is a Nikon D80 - we can both dream, right?!

Hope you enjoy your long weekend!

  11. Hi Bonnie, I'm so glad your having a great visit with your "boy." The photo of Stefan looks like he's getting a big idea!

I LOVE Chicago and often think of stealing away for a weekend visit with my husband. I'm also considering coming to see you to make drapes, table cloth and headboard. I think the sewing machine will fit in the carry on bin...... ; )

  12. Ah my favorite many times there when I was a kid. Of course I loved the Colleen Moore (?) doll house the best, but all the rest as well. You brought forth lots of memories!

  13. It looks like fun! I, too, took my children to a museum this week, but it was the Museum of Natural History. I was so comforted by the science there -- the matter of factness, the certainty, the wonder, yes -- but the confidence of science itself.

  14. I can't wait to see how you like the Rebel! I'm seriously considering buying one.

The museum sounds like fun! Weather is such a fascinating topic.

  15. What sweet sweet picture of your lovely niece! That museum looks very interesting.
    Have a happy Saturday! xx

    He was SO right.
