Working Breakfast and Introducing My Blog Assistant

Breakfast is my favorite meal.  I cannot start a day without breaking my fast!  First a cup of strong, freshly brewed coffee and then food and more coffee.  I'm an early riser and, in addition to reading the Chicago Tribune up close and personal, I read the op eds and a few other journalists in the Washington Post and the NY Times online at day break.  I peruse the food sections on Wednesdays and clip or bookmark recipes.  Then I catch up on my favorite blogs and compose my own.  And I usually breakfast while doing all of the above most mornings except Sundays.

2 slices of whole grain baguette
A thin slather of cream cheese
2 pieces of wild caught smoked sockeye salmon
A small green zebra heirloom tomato

2 to 3 cups of real coffee lightened with real half and half

This is Oliver, my blog administrative assistant, looking over my latest post breakfast.

We hope your day is off to a great start!

  1. My Oliver is not an assistant -- I get to blog on my own!

  2. You have the cutest administrative assistant I've ever seen! I read the Washington Post, as well. And look forward to Wednesday for the food section. I read it then save it for a friend. After looking at your breakfast, I have decided that you should be the one to finally educate me on the thinly sliced smoked salmon. I have been wanting to try it on a bagel with cream cheese for years! But I know nothing about it, and am so timid about trying new foods. I also have gastro problems, so have to be careful. But it looks so good. Can you please tell me about it? It is not raw? Is it ready made to eat? How long will it keep after you open a package? How would you compare it to fresh salmon? Why is there smoked salmon but you rarely see any other smoked fish? Aren't I awful, I just know nothing about it!! Feel free to laugh uproariously. Just be careful not to spit your coffee out!

  3. Love your assistant, Bonnie.... Oliver is adorable... I'm sure he was not interested in your breakfast..... ha ha

Speaking of breakfast, I know you are thinking healthy---but that breakfast does not turn me on.... I will choose my bowl of healthy cereals topped with some banana and fresh strawberries.... That's more MY speed....

Don't tell your assistant all of your big secrets... ha

  4. Oliver is adorable..wish I had an assistant just like him. Your blog is lovely so happy to have found you.

  5. Your morning sounds ideal. I tend to follow a similar pattern. I sit and do of reading, drink coffee and eat a simple and nutritious meal. Your sandwich would be perfect for me! And Oliver is just adorable. I need a puppy...I just have to convince my husband. Thanks for sharing!

  6. Your morning routine sounds delightful, Bonnie. Especially the coffee and reading. I have never tried blogging at a scheduled time . . . I might just like that.

As for your assistant ~ I am not a dog girl, so no assistant for me. :)

    Have a great morning.

  7. LOL! Oliver is "looking over your last post" INTENTLY! I would be, too! With a few capers for good measure. LOL! Cute assistant.

  8. breakfast is one of my most favorite times of day also! I blog while I eat as well.

Man does this smoked salmon look awesome!

  9. What an adorable assistant you have there! The breakfast looks yummy...I can't blame him for eyeing it. Carla

  10. Oliver is so cute! I'd be looking at that breakfast too!

  11. Great assistant - adorable! But I have to say I am really loving your breakfast and getting hungry!

  12. Your assistant is quite charming. Too bad he doesn't type or take photos, eh?

  13. I want Oliver!!

I remember not liking breakfast as a younger person, but now I love it! I would never skip it, or I would feel horrible for the rest of the day. I don't know how some people do it
I spy with my eye, an old copy of Gourmet :)

I just bought the new Thomas Kellar cookbook called

Ad Hoc at Home. I am going to a lecture he is giving tomorrow. I loved his other two books, but they were just eye candy, and I couldn't justify buying them. This book is wonderful, and I can't wait to try some of the recipes.

  14. forget the breakfast, i LOVE your admin asisstant. Oliver you are sooooo pretty and who knew you could type?

  15. oliver looks smart.

*pssst. oliver. here in the comments. listen, if you're ever in the market for bigger and better pay otherwise known as breakfast, i can offer something gooey and chewy like pancakes....text me...or bark.*

  16. Adorable assistant :)

    Your breakfast looks delicious!!

Great blog; happy I found you!

  17. Oliver is adorable!!! That would be my sweet little beagle Ginger in my home. She's always with me when I'm blogging.

I'm not much of a breakfast eater...never have been. I DO force myself to eat breakfast, though, as I know it is supposed to be THE MOST IMPORTANT meal of the day. I usually have a really seedy (by that, I mean LOTS of seeds...pumpkin, sesame, and sunflower) slice of whole grain toast, with peanut butter and banana on it...and a glass of milk. I prefer the natural peanut butter, but my family HATES it. They like the unhealthy kind, with sugar and hydrogenated oil, so that is what I buy.

Anyhow your sandwich looks good, even to one who isn't crazy about breakfast...the op/ed section, however, would turn my stomach and totally ruin my day. I NEVER read that page of the paper...gets me too upset.

Hope you're enjoying a lovely week.

  18. Most weekdays I have granola for breakfast. Weekends maybe a little more thought is involved. What a cute assistant you have!

  19. Hello from Lubbock, Thanks for dropping in. I love your breakfast. And I love chicago. I used to work for a company whose USA home office is in Aurora so I spent many a lovely time there.

Love your blog and I'll be coming by frequently. Hey, what were you doing in lubbock?

  20. Me too! Breakfast is when I truly enjoy my food; who am I kidding?
    but breakfast is Special!

  21. HOW CUTE!!! I have a blogging assistant too. (a mini long-haird dachshund) And his little nose is always on the corner of my laptop ready to help.

  22. darn it .... some days I feel left out. So many of you have personal blog assistants!

  23. Autumn is my kitchen assistant, especially when she hears rattling plastic :-)

I always enjoy hearing from you, my blogging friends.
