Practice Makes More Perfect....

....I hope!!

I've been playing around and thought I'd share.  Please feel free to offer advice, constructive criticism or laugh.

The living room isn't really orange and you can't really see the fireplace.

The dining room isn't green.  It's a bluish green.  This looks institutional green.  And then there's that flash in the mirror on the buffet.

I can see that flash photography is going to be tough!!

  1. I am by no means an expert, but I rarely use the flash. These new cameras don't seem to need them.

  2. read your book on white balance and ISO spped and how to change it. you can put it on shade, cloudy, or pick the kind of lighting. take the same picture of your living room by changing the white balance. also change your ISO to 400 or 800 if it is dark. I did that with mine and you will see the difference. set your camera on the P look down and see the ISO, tap it and change it, the tap the WB and look at all the settings. your home is beautiful

  3. The reason your living room looks orange probably has something to do with the white balance setting on your camera...look in the manual or google it...as for the flash I don't recommend using it.

  4. Well, it looks warm and welcoming anyway!!!

And you know me, I don't even own a camera, so I have no suggestions at all. But I do think your home is pretty and hospitable.

    Blessings on your day,
    Patti

  5. You have a lovely home, Bonnie. I don't know enough about cameras to be any help. Sorry. I hope all is well. Blessings...Mary

  6. I'll echo what the others have said, don't use the flash. On my camera, for some reason, it works really well, and knows how to slow the shutter speed down(While on auto) and the pictures come out amazing that way. If I have the flash on it looks harsh. Were you trying to do it all in manual? I'm still doing many things on autol:)

  7. I love the wonderful, comfy looking furniture in the living room, and the way that it's arranged!! I just want to sink into something! So what color are the walls? Maybe pale peach? HEY!!! That reminds me, weren't you going to show us before and after kitchen pictures? We've never seen the new re-painted cabinets. Oh, gosh, I'm just looking at your other comments. I thought that "just playing around" meant you are thinking of moving the furniture or painting, Ha ha. But I see now that it's a camera question. Anyway, back to your kitchen....

  8. Beautiful home, Bonnie, and it looks so cozy and warm.

I don't use flash very much at all... It's amazing how much better pictures come out (even in a darker room) without a flash...
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  10. I am by far a photography guru. But what I have found is that constantly playing around with the manual setting help.

And as for my cake, yes, it's only zest. It amazes me how much flavor is in citrus zest.

  11. Bonnie, soon you will be hooked on no flash! The manual modes are so much fun to play with and take out the flash unless you want it. I am still looking for a lens that is wide enough angle to get a whole room AND works well in low light (since I have become hooked on the shots without flash). =) PLUS the white balance makes ALL the difference with the colors. There is so much to learn, so little time! LOL! Sometimes it overwhelms me and I just want to go back to auto. Your home is beautiful, regardless of WB or flash!

  12. Your home is lovely regardless of the colors. I am just learning how to work my camera too. I usually take the same picture on several different settings and keep the best ones. Good luck! Carla

  13. Yes...like everyone has already said...what a beautiful home! I'm so unskilled in photography that I have no advice to offer you...I need a professional to help me too! But at least your house still looks lovely regardless of color!

  14. Oh man my camera stinks. Did you just get a new one or something? I should think about doing that...

  15. I see people talking about white balance....huh? Oh, I hate technical stuff! Cell phones and digi-cameras defeat me. Give me a 'puter and I'm good.

Even if the colors are off, your home (and your photos) are beautiful. Good luck with the whole white balance thing :P

  16. I never use the flash -- if it's too dark, then I use my iphoto to edit -- I think the flash produces "off" color!
