Remembrance of Easter Past (Channeling Proust)

Any day with family and friends is a good day.  A holiday spent with family and friends is a very good day.  As I've mentioned before, we've been spending special holidays with the same group of friends since we moved here almost twenty-five years ago.  In the beginning, our children were at table with us.  During their college years, the children usually found their way back home for holidays.  Rarely are they all around for the same gatherings now so we cherish the ones who are and share news of the ones who aren't.  This Easter, our younger son and his wife were here.

We traveled to our friends in Valparaiso.
The table was picture-perfect.
The photographer needs to work on perfecting the picture.


The Baker acted as sommelier (he's multi-talented).


Who would have guessed that the gardens of the host would provide the beautiful pots of flowers so early in the year?

After we had a delicious dinner of ham, scalloped potatoes and fresh asparagus,
we found room for....


...pineapple and raspberry upside-down cake 
prepared by The Baker.


We all enjoyed the presence of sweet Casey,  recently returned from her "spa day" and beribboned in a gossamer blue bow.

It was a very good day!

  3. It looks like you had a wonderful day with good food, good friends, home grown flowers and the beautiful gossamer blue ribbon worn by the silent hostess. I think dogs have a pretty great life, don't you?

  4. mmm the food sounds delicious! Old friends are just delightful, aren't they? It's nice to all grow older together and watch your children grow up. What a gift you all share together!

  5. forget the flowers, send me the basket that is next to the flowers. LOL yummy on the cake, have not had one of those since i left home at age 19. mother made the best ones, looked like this. glad you had family and friends and good food and beautiful table for your Easter

  17. when I was young, I used bottles too. Now, i have beautiful vase, but no flowers. Because my husband is allergic to pollen.

  23. Looks like you had a wonderful Easter lunch. The weather WAS beautiful but a bit chilly here. Can't believe the lilacs are all in full bloom, but I am a bit worried about my apple tree with all this frost in the morning today and tomorrow. What will be will, not much I can do about it right! The cake looks sooooo good! :-)
