Sunday Musings

I grew up in a family that ate breakfast
every morning.  Usually the meal consisted of eggs, bacon,
biscuits or toast and fruit.
I don't remember ever having dry cereal.
Oatmeal appeared on the table occasionally.  It was always
topped with a small pat of butter,
a sprinkling of brown sugar
and milk.

The Baker and I agree
that, if we ever have to give up one meal a day,
it will not be breakfast.

I'd thought about having breakfast on the porch
this morning.  At 7 a.m., the temperature
was 68 degrees--a little too cold
so, we stayed inside and enjoyed fresh fruit,
coddled eggs, toast and
several cups of strong coffee.

Bring on the day!

Have a great week!

  2. Good Morning, My Friend... I love your Sunday Musings... This is the kind of blog I love --where people talk about themselves/families/interests/etc.... Love it!!!!! We always had a substantial breakfast also --and one thing Mom made which I still love but don't have very often was Fried Apples.... YUM... She also made the best Rhubarb I have ever eaten.. It wasn't in a pie like people have it now --but just in a bowl... YUM....

Breakfast has always been a favorite meal of mine --but now that I'm watching my weight, I do have to be careful since many of the things I love are SO high in calories... BUT--just an egg over wheat toast is awesome to me!!!! Gosh--this is making me hungry.. Today is our Omelet morning ...... Gotta run and get it going!!!!

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  3. our family was the same.. and i believe breakfast is the most important of the day and is one that should not be skipped. yours look so pretty... for all my life at home with parents we ate breakfast at 7, dinner and noon and supper at 5.. daddy's rules... if we missed it we missed it but we never did... the funny thing is when my kids were small i had no set schedule... but for the 8 years since i retired we eat the same schedule daddy made us eat.
bob eats eggs and toast, i eat bagel or english muffin with peanut butter and honey or apple butter.

  5. This breakfast looks great, but I have to admit, I have never eaten a coddled egg. I am not even sure how I would make one. Do love soft-boiled and many, many other ways. Somehow this way slipped through the cracks.

  6. My family always ate a big country breakfast of eggs, bacon or sausage, and grits with toast. My mom always worked a full time job as well. I don't know how she did it all. Enjoy your day! :) -Carla

  9. You made it very fancy. The little jar is so sweet, looks like a gorgeous French jar that would not be for cooking!

  10. Lovely! I had those same little coddled egg jars once, long ago, but they drove me crazy when I cleaned them so I put them away somewhere. Do you have any tips regarding that?

  11. Bring on the breakfast! I would give a lot right now for 68 degree temps. It has been a scorcher and I am ready for cooler temps. Thanks for sharing this great breakfast post.

  12. Breakfast and lunch are my big meals, I just snack a little after work. It has been a very mild/odd summer that's for sure! But I'll take it:@)

  16. That is one fine breakfast, Bonnie! The same here across the border, too cool for breakfast on the deck. There is no way I'd give up breakfast, it is definitely my favorite meal of the day, even if it's only a bowl of Wheat Chex! Have a good week!

  17. i only wish it were 68 here instead it is a hot 90 when I woke up this morning. Texas is all about the heat in the summertime. Love your memories of growing up though. its funny how we all grew up doing things differently in terms of eating

  19. What a delightful breakfast. We always ate a bigger breakfast, too, when I was growing up. It is, by far, my favorite meal on the planet. Thanks so much for coming by....

  20. A good looking breakfast! We eat a lot of eggs and having coddled eggs as pretty as yours would be a nice change. Breakfast is my favorite meal to have company! My mother used to serve us oatmeal or "farina" on cold school mornings and I always hated it! Still not a favorite but I do like grits ok now that I've become a transplant. :-)
